Slavic Bridal Traditions

The most important event in a Slavic family is the wedding festival, which is frequently celebrated in flower, summer or fall. It was a time for celebration and joy, as it marked the beginning of the new living. Soldiers married after successful activities, fishing held their weddings after a good catch and shepherds tied the knot after the calving year.

Before the wedding ceremony, the wedding is usually given a rushnyk ( a wreath with a bridge). Her kids current her with bread and salt and question for their gift. They also give the couple ektenias ( a ring ) that symbolizes a slavic marriage and a promise of faithfulness ukrainian women and fidelity. The wife wears a shroud, which she never takes off, except to go to the washroom. It was considered a bad sign to get off the mask during the meeting, and in ancient times it was usual to condemn a newlywed who did so.

After the festival the newlyweds walk through the streets of the community, with people throwing grains of corn, pastries and cash for happiness and prosperity. They even stop at local shrines and offer tribute. The wedding ceremony is supervised by a master of ceremonies called a” Tamada”. He is a boisterous buddy who runs the different competitions.

When the wife leaves her parents ‘ house, she takes with her a blanket that she should keep, not to give away or allow everyone touch. The couple’s family tested the bride by asking her questions and requesting ocean from her. If they placed wealth on a tray, the wife may give them ocean or answer their queries.
